About

When you phone a company like your gas supplier for example, you’d hope that the number you were calling was low cost or even free (especially if you’re going to be in a phone queue for twenty minutes). The last thing you want is the company actually making money for every minute you are kept on hold - but incredibly, with numbers that start with 0870 in the UK for example, that’s exactly what’s happening. Even 0800 numbers, which are free to dial from a BT landline, are usually not included in your free minutes (you’ll still pay 20p per minute to T-mobile to dial ‘free’ 0800 numbers on their standard contract for example).

Luckily, many companies also have alternative ’standard’ numbers that you can dial which will connect you to the same service as the premium number. The standard (or geographical) number will often be cheaper on a landline or even free to call from a mobile. However, these alternative numbers are often hard to come by, and most companies don’t tend to shout about them too much.

This is where saynotopremium.co.uk comes in. Before dialing the premium number, use our Number Search function to find an alternative and hopefully save yourself some money.

We’re trying to build up our database all the time so if you discover an alternative number that we don’t have on our site - or maybe you work for a company that uses a premium number ;) then please submit them to the site so that everyone can benefit from your good sleuthing work! Click here for some tips on how to find these numbers.

As the database is currently still being filled up with numbers, if you want to see what a positive result looks like, you can try searching for this number: 08456100100
