Call Charges Guide
Call charges in the UK (as in most other countries) are hideously complicated, the following is a simplified version of the full picture. There are further details at Ofcom and Which? The only realistic way to know for sure how much you will be paying to dial a certain number, is to contact your phone line provider before hand (as if we're all going to do that).
01/02/03 numbers
These numbers are great. 01 and 02 numbers are regular (geographic) phone numbers that will be charged on a local or national basis, if you have any bundled minutes with your phone package, these types of numbers will usually be included, this goes for mobiles as well as landlines.
03 numbers are new and are a non-geographical equivalent to the 01 and 02 numbers. 03 numbers should be charged in the same way as 01 and 02 numbers.
0800 and 0808 numbers
As you may already know, if you're dialing from a landline these numbers are usually free. However if you're dialing from a mobile be aware that these numbers are often not included in your free minutes and can cost around 20p per minute to dial. If you're on a mobile, check our database before calling in case there is a 01/02/03 equivalent for this number.
07 numbers
07 numbers are usually mobile numbers but not always. Be carefull when dialing these numbers as the 07 prefix also includes a range of numbers used as 'follow me' numbers and can be very expensive to dial. Because of this risk, we don't list these types of numbers on our number search results page.
08 numbers
There are many types of 08 numbers (0870, 0871, 0844, 0845, 0800) and they are almost always more expensive to dial than 01/02/03 numbers (apart from 0800 numbers, see above). Some 08 numbers include a revenue share that is shared with the company that you are dialing. These numbers are often not included in your bundled minutes, regardless of whether you are dialing from a landline or a mobile. Check our database before calling in case there is a 01/02/03 equivalent for this number.
09 numbers
09 numbers are the genuine premium numbers, they are very expensive to call, especially from a mobile. These numbers are not listed on our number search results page.
